Waste Chemistry

Online @ Microsoft Teams

When working with hazardous waste it is crucial to have an understanding of the chemical properties and hazards due to exposure, environment, classification, transport, handling and packaging.

The chemical properties of the waste determine the downstream solution, i.e. whether the waste may be recycled, treated, recovered to produce energy or deposited.

Different waste treatment facilities use different technology. Hence, knowledge about the composition of the waste play an important role in choosing a treatment plant.

The course is ideal for everyone who is working with hazardous waste. No prior knowledge is required, and candidates will receive a certificate of completion. Contact one of our environmental advisors for more information about the course content.

The course will cover the following subjects:

  • Introduction to chemistry

  • Chemical elements and compounds

  • Chemical bonds

  • Hydrocarbons

  • Chemical reactions

  • Units and calculations

  • Waste classification using chemistry

    • Acids and bases

    • Surfactants and emulsions

    • Organic and Inorganic chemicals

    • Gasses

    • Oxidizing substances

    • Organic perioxides

    • Lithium batteries

    • Heavy metals and organic halogens

    • Waste analysis

    • GOMO and SDS

    • Chemical inventory and candidate/priority list

Our environmental advisors are hosting the course  through Microsoft Teams.

The training takes place in groups of 5-15 participants (min. 5, max. 15 participants). Hence, there will be good opportunity for questions and discussions.

This course is a 1 day-course in Norwegian, and will last from 09.00 – approx. 16.00. English courses are available upon request.

Courses that are canceled by customer less than 7 days before will be invoiced.

Registration closes 31. August.

If you wish to register after the registration is closed, please send a request to SARkurs@sargruppen.no.

Environmental Advisors

As environmental advisors in SAR; Marthe, Carina and Hanne provide internal and external support on hazardous waste with regards to training, courses and consulting. Externally, they are working with specific assignments  both offshore and onshore, such as consulting in environmental mapping and preparing waste management plans.
